The Fall 2017 Book Sale of the Friends of the Chatham Community Library was another great success. It brought in more than $19,000. The proceeds from the sale will benefit this valuable community resource by allowing our library to purchase needed books, materials and equipment; underwrite its various programs; and improve its technology and services.

These book sales are an opportunity for the book lovers of Chatham County to share their joy of reading and to explore new worlds and new ideas first through their generous donations of a broad variety of quality books and then through their purchase of the treasures donated by others. And we constantly hear from the buyers and volunteers how much they enjoy these sales.

The efforts of more than 100 members of the Friends of the Chatham Community Library were responsible for the success of this 20th anniversary sale ó by contributing their time to collect, sort, set up and arrange the books for the sale and then working at the sale itself as cashiers, packers, counters, haulers and arrangers, not to mention assisting buyers in every way possible.

And we canít forget the valuable support that was provided by the staff of the library, plus McIntyre's Fine Books in Fearrington Village; the local Harris Teeter and Lowes food stores, which donated the grocery bags for bag day; Lowe's Home Improvement in Pittsboro, which provided the shopping carts to move book purchases to cars; and the PTA Thrift Stores of Chatham County, which provided a home for the few books left as "orphans" at the end of the sale.
